Writing on the Rock (from the book ‘Celebrating Saints and Seasons’ by Jeanne Hunt)
The entrance to the tomb of Jesus was closed with a huge rock. This rock was so large that when the women came to the tomb they thought they would need help moving it. We all have hard places in our hearts and lives that keep us from meeting the Savior. These rocks prevent us from loving one another. To develop this idea, put a large rock and a permanent felt pen in the center of the table or in your prayer corner. Encourage the family members or students to write on the rock the things that keep them away from growing in their relationship with Jesus. Young children might write, “fighting with my brother,” or, “not doing my homeward,” while teenagers might sneak up to the rock to write: “worrying too much about grades.” Moms and dads might write about spending more time listening to their children. Let the rock fill up with this reconciling graffiti during Lent and watch the hard places in your heats disappear.
