Summer is officially here! It’s been so nice to have Gabriel home all day long. I was a little worried the boys would antagaonize one another, but so far so good! One of the fun things we’ve started this year is a reading chart for Gabriel. He’s already involved in the summer reading program at the library, another one at his school, and one with Jim and me. We have a big board on the door with a list of books he’s completed. Some are very easy (the Itsy Bitsy Spider) and others are more challenging (Jumanji) but so far he’s responded with great enthusiasm! When I was a little girl I struggled in reading and really hated it. Then one summer I entered a contest and ended up winning for reading the most books! That changed everything. I really grew to love it and I’m hoping for the same for Gabriel. I think it’s vital to have a solid reading foundation, and the earlier, the better. Thankfully Jim is a voracious reader so the boys often see him buried in a book. I on the other hand don’t have the time I would like, but someday soon I’ll be reading the old’ romance novels again!:) LOL.
Here is the chart we made up. We go to the library once a week and we’ve had a blast (all of us) exploring different themes and adventures! From learning about Tecumsah to Padre Pio, researching Mars to baseball, it’s been a good lesson for ME too!:) If you are bored this summer I highly recommend the library, you just can’t go wrong!:)
