Well, time is moving along and I finally dropped a few lbs (3 so far) so I am encouraged…slow but sure! I also had an interesting week with a few food discoveries. At a doctor’s appointment on Wed, I asked her about the new study that revealed girls are hitting pubery earlier, as young a 7 years old. I was curious to get her perspective because I admire how on the ball she is with the latest information, studies, etc. Anyway, she pointed to the obvious (obesity) but then followed up by adding it is the hormones in our foods, and even the high level of hormones in our water supply. I had heard of that before (birth control residue in our water) and that is also vastly affecting male fertility as well. I decided to do a Google search on that and found dozens ton of articles confirming the speculation. Scary stuff! Anyway, she encouraged going organic when it comes to all dairy (milk, eggs, cheese, etc) and it triggered all sorts of connections for me of friends, and people I know who have had problems with hormones in food and have also opted to go organic. My personal trainer for one, also my friend who’s daughter began experiencing symptoms of puberty in first grade! Her mom is a nurse and was told, and also researched that milk was most likely the culprit, so they went organic as well. Even a co-worker was telling me that his daughters were having problems and they had to switch to “hormone free” chicken. So, needless to say, with all of that input I have been absorbing all the info I can about clean eating and it’s benefits. My only hesitation in the past was the price. I mean, of course we all want to eat like Gwenyth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston, but we don’t have their budget to do it!:) So, I was pleasantly surprised when we made a trip to Raisin Rack and scored some great deals. Here is our haul from yesterday:
I want to find a good source for getting free range, hormone free chicken (I found some online vendors, but still looking). The big bag of Tyson chicken at Sam’s is hormone free, so that’s good. My friend Jayme also told me that they order a special fridge water filter that filters out hormones in the water. I am on the hunt for that! This is definitely just the beginning of a new process for me, but it’s been eye-opening and helpful. I used this guide before going to Raisin Rack, it’s: “12 Foods to Eat Organic”. I think that’s all for now, will report back as I learn along the way! 🙂
