It’s been a good visual reminder to see something that was given up for lost, slowly be revived and blossom. It’s also been a humbling lesson to realize how quickly I can make a mess of something or ruin a once good thing. Yet the truth is, God can turn anything we damage into beauty, and redeem it all for good. I needed that reminder this week as I was laid up with bronchitis, feeling helpless in knowing how to help one of my son’s, and worrying that I might not be doing enough to help my daughter grow. Psalm 23 is such a comfort in these times:
He is our refuge and assurance! It’s comforting to have that promise that though I may flounder in my efforts, and second-guess myself often, that the Lord is my Shepard and will aid and restore strength.
I ran across this prayer for moms and thought it would be a nice one to share. For the mothers struggling to hold it together, we unite in prayer, giving our hopes and hurts to God, who transfigures all to beauty.
I want to care
for those you’ve sent into my life,
to help them develop the special gifts
you’ve given them.
to follow their own paths
and to bring their loving wisdom
to the world.
to embrace them without clutching,
to support them without suffocating,
to correct them without crushing.
to live joyfully and playfully, myself,
so they can see your life in me
and find their way to you.
Amen.

Oh Brooke, I can SO relate!!! I had bronchitis this week too. I'm a busy working Mom who had to slow down this week. The worst bug that I've had in a long time. I'm feeling better – I hope that you are too!
Have a good Labor Day!
