Happy weekend! I hope you enjoyed the abbreviated week. Saturday is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in other words: Mary’s birthday! The boys will be gone all day due to scouts, so we celebrated early.
I bought fresh roses for Mary (she is sometimes referred to as “Mystical Rose”). Pretty pink blossoms:
The kids and I also swaddled Karolina’s doll to make a “Baby Mary” as a visual:
You can find a great, free party pack here if you are interested, (just scroll down the page) to celebrate! The Catholic Toolbox also has some great resources. I downloaded some Marian hymns like “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman” and “Salve Regina” to listen to as we made a birthday cake. The baking was a total flop due to lack of time, but I attempted to make this blue and white marble cake. It requires 3 hours for Jell-o to set, and I only gave it an hour and a half because the boys needed to get out the door. One of the layers completely crumbled beyond repair, but the recipe is SUPER easy overall (as long as you follow the directions for time):) Still, we did salvage one layer and it was yummy:
In other news-I’ve undergone a pretty big hair change. Last week I went in for highlights and came out transformed… unfortunately not the transformation I was hoping for. I went to someone new and my hair turned out WHITE. I was rockin’ the Grandma look ya’ll. Ha. This photo really does not do it justice, but here is the “after:”
Back in my (wild) younger years, I may have been okay with this shade, but something has changed and I definitely can’t pull it off anymore! I went back for a…calmer color, and also decided to chop several inches off. It felt great. Here’s the curly look:
And straight:
I just realized I take a lot of mini-van profile pictures, that’s goofy! Ha. I’m still getting used to the new hair length, but so far I really like it. Sometimes a gal just needs a change.
Well, have a GREAT weekend. I’m hoping to steal some time reading a few new books on my nightstand. I’m going to try to do a blog update about them next week. Stay tuned. God bless you and enjoy the lovely temps!

Love the new hair! I love the feeling of getting a few inches chopped off- then I miss it haha. Your hair didn't look bad in that first pic either 😉

Hi Brooke, our church has a statue of our Blessed Mother and we are able to welcome her in our homes for a week. I just called and set up a date, but all of a sudden got a little nervous. I see that you have her in your home and was hoping for some guidance as to how to prepare for her visit and what to do for the week we have her in our home. This is all new to me so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
