What a winning weather weekend….WOW! Here in NE Ohio we were blessed with a picture perfect weekend, comfortable temps and all. I hope you all enjoyed it! We took full advantage with some R&R in Sugarcreek, OH. We’ve been there a few times before and each visit is unique, but a guaranteed blessed boost every time. I might say this may have been our best experience yet. We took the family + grandma and there was something for everyone. I was especially looking forward to attending the play “The Confession,” based on the book by Beverley Lewis. I had no idea what a popular author she was, how intriguing her writing is, and how fantastic the production would be! It was a home run. I laughed and cried. Sometimes you don’t know how badly your soul needs a drink of rest and laughter until you are filled up with it again and feel strengthened by something totally unexpected. If you are looking for a quick getaway in a place that will transport you to a simpler place, and pamper you in the process, you’ve got to check out the The Carlisle Inn! Here are a few photos from our weekend:
Beautiful view! Blue skies and rolling hills. Inhale, exhale.
The Carlisle Inn hosted a Fall Fest, complete with banjo bands, train rides and animals. Gabe made a new friend.
Might as well jump!
Amish-built playhouse chapel. Niiice.
Evening plans:
The musical “The Confession.” It was excellent!
An exciting shopping highlight came when we bought a long-searched for, new quit comforter. We’ve had the same bedding for over 7 years (we DO have a few sheet sets, which I DO wash frequently though, just not the comforter. Fyi. Lol. ) We have been looking for about a year for a new one. Pottery Barn, Overstock.com, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc. Finally, at a place called “The Coop” we found THE ONE! A (King) comforter with shams, Amish made, for only $119! YES! Oh happy day.
Best of all, the weekend provided some much-needed focused family time. I am still adjusting to life with 5 kiddos, and some weeks I do a better job than others. I have found that the bulk of my day is spent in the kitchen, even with make-ahead meals and (trying) to be more organized. With Karolina’s dietary challenges, Gus beginning solid foods, and the general cleaning up after snacks/meals for the family, most of my day revolves around food or cleaning up. We have a relatively good routine and I enjoy the kitchen, but has been harder to find one-on-one time with the older kids to do other things. So, to have a weekend where my only job is to focus on conversation, swimming, and fun (and let the dishes go) was HUGE. And I am grateful.
P.S. Monday is “Constitution Day” and all of next week will be recognized as Constitution Week, so with that, here is a little Karolina love, from us to you with her “We the People” shirt. God bless you, and God bless the U.S.A.!
Next time you come to Sugarcreek, check out our small cabin that sleeps 4-6 people. We are 2 miles from the Carlisle Inn in Sugarcreeek.
Thanks,
Vance and Brenda Speas
