Happy first day of school! It’s been so neat to see all of the first day pics on Facebook. It’s nice to share the milestones and memories. I can’t get over how it seems everyone is sprouting up! Including (let me clear the lump in my throat)..Karolina. Our little girl had a big day today. Last night I washed her hair, and did our little twisty do’ so it would be curly today. We laid out her clothes, got her new Twinkle Toes shoes out of the box, and charged the camera battery.
For some reason, I didn’t sleep at all. It was just one of those nights I couldn’t get my brain to turn off. I re-played the last 2 and a half years with Karolina, all the things I wasn’t ready for, and the ways she has surprised us, changed us, and sometimes challenged us, as all kids do. I know it’s just preschool but it’s been a miraculous road to get to this point, and that reality really hit me all over again.
Karolina on the other hand slept like a baby and was carefree and ready for donuts bright and early. She takes after her mom on that one. 🙂 I was relieved to meet the bus driver and aide, and even more grateful when Karolina went on the bus with a smile! We had “tested” it out last week, and she had cried a little, so I was worried. All in all, it was a wonderful day. She came home with a glowing report! Mom will be sleeping soundly tonight. 🙂 Here are a few photos of our big girl:
One of the things that came to me in my late night state of insomnia, was a heart-touching video that went viral a few years back. It’s “The Gift of an Ordinary Day” by Katrina Kenison. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance to cherish each day, especially when our kids are young. A need to issue a warning though: you may blow through an entire box of tissues and break out into a full sob when you hear this one. But, it’s worth it. 🙂 God bless you today.
