Well, hello friend! I’m nearly a week overdue in my goal of posting, so much to share but not enough hours in the day to get it done. Today, Gus is helping me with this one as we have some BIG changes to report! After much debate and waffling, I took the plunge and got a drastic new do’. I was surprised when I received Jim’s blessing to go for it. He’s already been through many of my hair adventures (and misadventures) so at this point I think he just chuckles and nods and waits it out. What a great guy. 🙂 So, yesterday was the big day. I haven’t drastically cut my hair in 10 years so I was nervous. And, those apps and virtual hair makeover websites just don’t cut it. I didn’t know how I would look with such a drastic change, and that very real concern kicked in of “what if it’s a total disaster?” As I sit here the new owner of a “side-swept pixie cut” I have to say, I think I like it. Sometimes, change is good. Waking up at 2am leaves little desire to style my hair, and this shorter coiffe is just the ticket. My hair was dry and unhealthy too, so I love being able to get a bit of a fresh start. I’ll be saving money on hair products and time on styling, so that’s another big bonus!
So without further adieu..here’s the new do’!
The inspiration:
The (nervous) “Before”
AFTER:
Gus and I also made a video to show the back of the hair.
So, what did Jim and the kids think? That was the best part. To secure his annual title of Husband of the Year, he had all five kids lined up in the kitchen when I walked in the door. Before even fully viewing the new look, they broke into applause and celebrated the change. What an awesome crew! Whether they like it or not, I don’t know..but they supported the change and that means the world to me. Hair can come and go, but I’m so thankful for my family and their love…in good hair days and bad. Here’s to hoping I’ll be sporting more of the “good” for a little while. 🙂
Have a great week!
It's gorgeous, Brooke! You are too pretty for words. Seriously.
I've been reading your blog since you announced your pregnancy on the morning show several years ago. I had been praying and talking to my husband about international adoption as we were struggling with infertility. We had always wanted to adopt, but had planned on having a biological child first. When I heard you were adopting, I was so excited and then when you found out you were also expecting, I thought that was such a special blessing. Like a reward for answering the call to adopt. I had to get online and follow your story more closely.
Fast forward a few years and I can tell you that my husband and I are happily waiting to be matched with a daughter from China and I'm joined right now by our miracle little boy that I gave birth to this summer. With no medical intervention, just a lot of prayer and faith in God's plan for our family, we began our adoption and found out we were expecting less than 48 hours after our first home study meeting! We feel so incredibly blessed to be getting not one, but TWO precious gifts from God!
Just wanted to share our story and thank you for your inspiration. You have changed more lives than you probably realize. Thank you so much!
I know you're incredibly busy, but if you ever want to check it out, out blog is AWishAndAPrayer.blogspot.com

Hi Brooke!
Peggy Ott here, we met at the Spring Mom Squad as you were leaving for the day. My daughter Chris has Prader-Willi Syndrome. Remember now? lol Anyway, LOVE, LOVE the hair cut. We listened to you and Len discuss that you were thinking about getting it cut and I SO wanted to call and say "It is just hair. And the beauty..it will grow back…and fast!" We just went this past weekend and got our haircuts. Though I wear mine short, I went for even shorter. And I love it! You look lovely my dear. And yes change is good, just a challenge in the process.
So I have a question about the Christmas Mom Squad. Was lunch included in the ticket? Does it have some of the same format as the Spring show? It didn't say on the site. We are thinking of attending since the location is close to us, but with Chris having Prader-Willi I need to plan ahead and know if food is involved. That way I can plan Chris's daily diet around the event for that day.
Thanks Brooke. And again, I think you will enjoy the short hair. So much easier to take care of with our mom schedules!!!
Peggy
You look like a movie star ready for the red carpet.
You hair looks WONDERFUL!!! You are very beautiful! (and you are so brave lol) I chopped off 12 inches for the 4th time to donate in August (I have curly hair and it was halfway down my back). After the cut it was to my chin…I think it's finally back to where I like it again hahaha but it's always for a good cause!
It turned out fabulous. You look even more gorgeous with it. Besides, a shorter hair has lots of benefits like it is easier to dry, better to style and cost effective too because you'll be using lesser hair products. 🙂
